A Vision for the Future

Together, we have achieved so much,  but it’s important that we also have a strong vision for the future of the ANMF in South Australia.

Here are some of the issues our team will be focusing on in the future.

Securing legislated staffing ratios

We have achieved significant success in convincing the current government to legislate staff ratios. We are currently engaging with members on the principles that set the foundations of the legislation. This is a huge piece of work that we can all be very proud of. Modelling shows it will result in 190 more nurses and midwives across SA, significantly improving member workloads and acting as an important benchmark for the Private Sector.

But the work is not over yet. Together, we need continue progressing that crucial piece of work to get it right - including getting it passed through Parliament. This will require strong and effective leadership, skilled negotiation and working with MPs across the Parliament.

Fighting for the Public Sector EB Agreement our sector deserves

The next Public Sector Enterprise Bargaining Agreement is due for negotiation in 2025 and we are already preparing our case for an agreement that puts us in the market with the great results achieved in Victoria.

I have already put the Government on notice that wages and conditions must be competitive. Our industry is currently facing a global shortage of workers, and we need to be proactive in attracting and retaining a workforce now and into the future. Not only for the good of our members, but for the good of our community.

Now is the time to be strong and clear: We deserve better, and we will stand together to achieve the results we justly deserve.

Improving Aged Care staffing and Private Sector wages

The ANMF SA has been instrumental in advocating for and achieving a raft of improvements for the Aged Care sector. 24/7 RN staffing, a 23% award rise for Personal Care Workers, and staffing level increases all achieved because we listened to members and made their voices heard. But the work is not over yet.

It’s time for ENs to be recognised in the staffing mix and it’s time for Private Sector EN and RNs to receive a significant wage rise. It will take great leadership, sharp advocacy skills and relentless member support to make these demands reality.

4

Fortifying workplace safety for members across South Australia

Our shared achievements in occupational health, safety and welfare are substantial. By working together we have achieved:

  • Gayle’s Law to ensure nurses do not work alone in remote environments

  • Government commitment to our 10 point plan on violence and aggression

  • An action plan from the department to implement the 10 point plan in all LHNs

  • Security guards in regional hospitals

  • Stronger work health safety laws and were a partner in the ‘It’s not part of the job’ community campaign against violence

Again, the work that needs to be done does not end here. We continue to work with members to achieve real and meaningful change to put an end to violence and aggression.

SUCCESS.
STRENGTH.
STABILITY.
